Employer Identification Number:
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that is assigned by the
IRS and used to identify taxpayers that are required to file various business tax returns. It
may also be referred to as a Tax Identification Number or TIN.
EINs are used by employers, sole proprietors with employees, corporations, partnerships,
LLCs, nonprofit associations, trusts, and other business entities. You need to obtain an
EIN if you incorporate your business or form an LLC.
