Creating a dba either under a legal entity or as a sole proprietorship must be filed with the county transacting business.

The Connecticut Uniform Securities Act Regulations require that, before any Connecticut
registered broker-dealer, investment adviser, agent or investment adviser agent (or any applicant
for registration) may use a trade or assumed name, a notice on Form DBA-1 must be filed with the
Securities and Business Investments Division. A Form DBA-1 must be filed even if the registrant or
applicant uses both the trade name and the name already on file with the department in conducting
its business.

Following is the requirement to file a dba in Connecticut:

  • Business name search
  • Notarize by the owner (if applicable)
  • Filing with the county or state
  • Owner name and address
  • Business address
  • Business description
  • Legal notice or publication in the newspaer (if applicable)
  • A registrant cannot add partnership, limited partnership, limited liability company or a corporation with the trade name in the state of Connecticut.
  • Trade name in the state of Connecticut is not a business license.
  • Failure to file a Trade Name Certificate in the state of Connecticut results in a $500 fine.

 

DBA Name reservation

State of Connecticut does not reserve dba name like a corporation or a Limited Liability Company.


Renewal of a Trade Name

It does not have to be renewed, 0nce filed. A dissolution must be filed to remove the trade name to stop using it. Dissolution must be notarized and stating that the individual is no longer doing business.
