What is the purpose to File a DBA in Wyoming?
You are required to register a Trade Name in the State of Wyoming if you intend to start a business as a sole proprietor under your legal name and use a business name to advertise your business or you want to add an additional name under your legal entity registered with the Wyoming Secretary of State.
Instructions to Register a Trade Name in Wyoming?
- Trade name must be filed with the Wyoming Secretary of State
- One originally signed and notarized filing must be submitted.
- The trade name must be in use prior to registration.
- Fee must go along with the filing.
- If the applicant is a business they must be registered and in good standing with the Wyoming Secretary of State prior to applying for the trade name.
- The Application for Registration of Trade Name must be in compliance with Wyoming Statutes 40-2-101 through 40-2-109.
- Typical processing time is 3-5 business days following the date of receipt in our office.
- Wyoming statutes do not allow for expedited filing at this time. Your filing will be processed in the order it is received.
- Registration is effective for a term of ten years and is renewable. The renewal may not be filed more than six months prior to the expiration.
Register Sole Proprietorship in Wyoming as a Non Resident:
A nonresident who does not live in the state of Wyoming cannot establish a Sole Proprietorship.

- Sales Tax Reruns if selling taxable products of licenses. Make sure you have obtained a Sales and Use Tax Permit from the Wyoming Department of Revenue.
- Payroll taxes and make sure that you have obtained registration to hire employee(s).
